Much to the dismay of the Vatican, an approx. 1500-2000 year old bible was found in Turkey, in the Ethnography Museum of Ankara.

Discovered and kept secret in the year 2000, the book contains the Gospel of Barnabas – a disciple of Christ – which shows that Jesus was not crucified, nor was he the son of God, but a Prophet.  The book also calls Apostle Paul “The Impostor”.  The book also claims that Jesus ascended to heaven alive, and that Judas Iscariot was crucified in his place.

These are five Muslim countries where being gay is not a crime. What do they have in common? None of them were colonized by the British Empire. Many countries in the Global South, whether Muslim or otherwise, are generally using colonial laws that pre-date their local penal codes to criminalize romantic love between consenting same-sex couples. Whether in West Africa, or Southeast Asia, in the heart of Europe or the Middle East, these countries remind us that the conversation on gay rights is not as clean cut as some might have imagined it to be.

California Becomes First State to Ban Gay, Trans 'Panic' Defenses

10/24/2014

California is the first state that has banned “gay/trans panic” as a legal defense. Gay and Trans panic as a legal defense is when you say in a court of law that you were driven to a state of temporary insanity by a person being LGBT+ and this is why you were violent towards or killed them. Of course this being used as a defense won’t work in a lot of courts, but it depends on the jury, attorney, and judges. In California its illegal to use this as defense so you don’t have to depend on the hope that decent people will be involved in the case.

Kyrgyzstan Readies to Ban LGBT 'Propaganda'

10/21/2014

On Wednesday, the parliament of the small Central Asian nation of Kyrgyzstan voted overwhelmingly in favor of a harsh bill that would criminalize LGBT "propaganda" -- potentially leaving the door open for widespread human rights abuses.

Similar to legislation that made waves in Russia in 2013, the Kyrgyz law would crack down on the spread of any LGBT-related information. However, the Kyrgyz version advocates even harsher punishments, including prison sentences and fines for expressing positive attitudes toward the LGBT community. Despite its similarities to the Kremlin's law, Kyrgyzstan's version appears to be domestic creation.
